So many inspiring photo’s on Flickr.

Today I also found inspiration on Twitter. Below is a quote from ‘One Red Robin’ it has really put a spring in my step today.

‘Doesn’t matter how long the process takes; what matters is that every day is lived as a step in the right direction’

seven worlds 16

(Image: Seven Worlds 16)

Since working on Lucy Loves Fabric full time, I have day’s when I feel overwhelmed.

It took me a long time to get to Lucy Loves Fabric, and many years of building her up. More than what I really realised. It’s been a slow progression to get where I am today and it hasn’t always been easy.

But without ‘her’ where would I be? Who would I be?

LLF is me. My heart and my soul is in ‘her’.

It overwhelms me the opportunities I’ve been given and how well LLF has taken off. It blows me away the nice people I get to deal with in this job, passionate, talented, kind people – it’s a joy!

I used to moan about the hours I worked in my city job, but really I put more hours into LLF…………yet I don’t mind. It’s a bit like moaning about treating yourself to a pedicure… how could you moan about doing something for yourself? To make you better?

My business, my job is my identity now. It’s my release, it’s how I can show people who I really am.. who is the real Lucy. It’s what I’m all about. I don’t know ‘who’ I’d be without ‘her’ anymore.

Having the foundations laid for my new Studio/Workroom kind of blows me away, something so solid in the earth… ready for me to build further on.

I feel so fortunate to be given this opportunity and for it to be going well, and meeting my dreams.

It scares me some times that if this was to end, or if I was without LLF and my new creative career I think I’d loose myself.

This career completes me, makes me. Fulfils me.

As Lucy Loves Fabric develops, I develop. I thank you all for being a part of this opportunity, without you I couldn’t ‘be’.

So, thanks guys! :)

So – do you ever wonder who you’d be?

The first donated squares to our blanket. The Lucy Loves Fabric Knitting Club are knitting for London Street Rescue homeless charity. A few of the girls who attend the club are knitting up squares in between their more complex projects to make some patchwork blankets for the LSR charity. Great teamwork for a great cause!

I haven’t popped by here for a chat in a rather long time… which is naughty. So here I am…

It’s been busy at Lucy Loves Fabric, after the Grand Designs and talking to Homes and Antiques magazine about a potential photo shoot… there has been lots of excitement.

(Image: www.amybutlerdesign.com)

More excitement being in the shape of a lovely white walled inspiring space which is going to be the Lucy Loves Fabric Studio. Gosh – the organising of this project has not been the easiest… BUT the foundations are going down on THURSDAY… yes, THIS Thursday. My lovely luxury log cabin is ordered although I’m STILL waiting for the delivery date….

(Image: www.amybutlerdesign.com)

Everything else is ready to go. All the electrics have been ordered so that I will have my laptop, sewing machine, over locker, kettle (phew), iron, lights, heating all working in my creative emporium.

Working from home certainly has it’s benefits but I cannot express enough how much I NEED this studio space! I need to be able to leave the house in the morning and ‘go to work’, I need to have a proper work bench, I need to have a room dedicated to my work… in the house LLF is gradually encroaching into the other rooms which I always swore wouldn’t happen. Humph. The fact this has happened means LLF is successful do you think!?…. well we have certainly been busy in less than a year.

Our ‘Introduce Fabric into your home Consultations’ are proving a great success. If you are interested please contact me. I love talking and sharing fabric ideas with people, it’s such a pleasure to share something you love so much. Fabric holds so much relevance in life, in clothing and interiors – things that are important to people, important in distinguishing their difference to someone else. Their identity. You can be so individual with your fabric and pattern choices. Possibilities are endless in projects with fabric….

(Image: www.amybutlerdesign.com)

We are also really enjoying our talks with the Women’s Institute. Our latest WI gave me a couple of tickets to a local garden show which I went to with my Mum on Friday. It was lovely to meet Betty at the door and also to be spotted by a couple of other WI members on my walk around. It’s great for me to get involved in the local community with you all.

Once the studio is up and running I shall be having a little opening soiree. We’ll also be hosting beginners knitting lessons and beginners sewing classes. I hope to host a creative book club and the odd creative film night. I hope this all sounds interesting to you all, I’ve had some wonderful feedback from you which has been keeping me going over these testing months of organising the build.

I keep looking at images of Amy Butler’s studio today. My dream…. I’ve popped a few photos in between my post. Talented lady. Check out our Amy Butler range here.

I will keep piecing together my little fabric world… and I’ll keep you all updated. Let me know what’s going on with you too…

{Dream Shopping} Orla Kiely

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

Orla Kiely in my opinion is pretty tarn talented. I LOVE her style and if I could only shop for cloths in one shop when a spending budget didn’t matter, it would most likely be with Orla. Her clothes make me happy. Her fabric designs are out of this world. Get ready for some colour…

Lucy at Grand Designs

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

Well as many of you already know, Kate Baxter (of www.fabricofmylife.co.uk) was designing a ’set’ for The Grand Designs Live show at London’s Excel. (www.granddesignslive.com/kate_baxter/)

It was a set inspired by fashion, looking at the relation between our interiors and fashion catwalk trends.

Love it!

Kate asked Lucy Loves Fabric to supply what I do best…..fabrics, for her to use in her set design. I am still over the moon about this opportunity and I have loved working to Kate’s spec and providing the fabrics.

I won’t babble on any longer…. here are some pics for you to admire…. Don’t miss the Vivienne Westwood wallpaper!!!! (You’ll also have to excuse the shaky photos, it was all the excitement!!!…I’ve never claimed to be good at photography, eek.)

{Creative Reading}

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

I’m reading this book at the moment…

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61udOfzX9fL._SS500_.jpg

Oh I can’t put it down…

Don’t you just love the book cover too??? So many pretty florals to look at.

WELL I bought this book at the wonderful quilt exhibition at London’s Victoria and Albert museum. (A must see!!!).

I am a total book lover, and whenever I go to an exhibition or the like I will come home with at least one book. All of these books I do genuinely love… but not all of them do I actually read…word for word…and really connect to the author and their creative thoughts like I do with Jane Brocket (Writer of ‘The Gentle Art of Quilt-Making’).

After a very dismal week in London, the wind has been so cold and the rain keeps falling periodically… leaving you not knowing what to wear when you leave the house. One of my pet hates is not knowing what outfit to put on. Grrr…

ANYWAY, we shall not dwell on these negative thoughts. I needed some colour and this book was my book of choice and oh it didn’t disappoint. I’m not really into book reviews myself, I don’t think I’m worthy to judge and give a professional opinion. But what I am going to say is Jane is so encouraging, so basic yet not condescending, so inspiring, so colourful, the instructions are fantastic and all of the 15 projects are beautiful and she leaves you believing that they are possible. There are basic quilts and some a little more complex, but Jane helps you through all the levels.

I am in a quandry today as I want to follow Janes instructions so I’m going to choose one of her fifteen designs…. this isn’t easy but I’m really enjoying the thought process behind choosing my quilt.

When you are feeling a bit dark and in my case cold, there is nothing like a really good creative, inspiring book to make you feel colourful and warm again. The Gentle Art of Quilt-Making has done it for me.

Tomorrow is a very exciting day for me. I am off to The Grand Designs Live show in London at The O2. There I will be running to Kate Baxter (of www.fabricofmylife.co.uk) ‘Fashion Inspired’ set where LLF has worked with her supplying all of the fabric. I will be taking LOTS of photos and popping them on here to show you all. I’m so excited!!!!! Has anyone else been to the show yet?? Me and the hubby are dreaming of doing our very own Grand Design one day so we are going along for tips : ))) All exciting stuff.

If anyone out there has any quilt making tips, I’d be very grateful. I know many of my ladies buy my fabrics for quilting, so it’d be great to have a few ideas to bounce off of.

Creative love to you all.

Print and Pattern trends 2011 – From Sanderson to the high st {Trendstop.com}

I know a few people I’m in contact with have already visited the ‘Very Sanderson’ exhibition at The Fashion and Textiles Museum near London Bridge.

150 Years of English Decoration.

The exhibition was a real treat for the eyes. Pattern and colour coming at you from all angles. I loved the tulip wallpaper featured above, from Sanderson’s Vintage wallpaper range.

If this isn’t ‘chintzy’ enough for your taste how about the below…? Ooooh…. yes please!!!

Eglantine
(Image: sanderson-uk.com)
The choices of fabric and wallpaper with Sanderson are amazing. The handpainted selection on show at the exhibition were out of this world. I fully recommend! £6.50 entrance fee (£3.50 for concessions) I don’t think is at all bad.
If you have already been, what did you think??
Well last night I wasn’t there just for the exhibition. I was there for the seminar…
PRINT AND PATTERN TRENDS 2011 – FROM SANDERSON TO THE HIGH STREET.
‘Print is one of the key factiors to define seasonal looks in commercial fashion’.
The talk was taken by Jaana Jatyri, CEO of leading trend agency Trendstop.com. From the Trendstop website….Trendstop.com is a leading online trend forecasting and analysis service, renowned for the quality and accuracy of our trend analysis and trend forecasts.’ One user can subscribe to the site for a whopping £2695. BUT don’t switch off just yet, there is a free trend alert that you can sign up to. After all the information Jaana shared with us, I think these free alerts are a bargain! Sign up here now.
There is also plenty of other bits and bobs for us to use as a fashion fix! Check it out!
So everyone… Happy Friday! Big kisses…. speak to you next week…. I’m going back to the sewing machine now.

Calling dressmakers out there!! {Inspriation}

floating by annamariahorner.

(Image: Anna Maria Horner)

Lovelies, Lovelies, Lovelies…

….Now when I was in Chelmsford on Saturday, selling to the local people. I had rather a lot of purchases of dress material, along with our new fabric by the metre for…guess what… DRESSES!

As you know we stock Anna Maria Horner material (a lot of the designs in the above dress in fact), she has a wonderful blog here. I like to keep in touch with my designers so this morning I was happily reading through Anna’s blog and I came across this stunning dress in fabrics available at Lucy Loves Fabric.

I think I may have to get sewing… what do you think?? Do you like it?

I love the chevron shapes in the skirt.
