Hi Readers
We hope you all had a nice weekend. This weekend was an interesting one for LLF, and one we have been looking forward to. Missoni was showing their exhibition at the Estoric Collection of modern Italian art based just behind Islington’s trendy Upper Street. A fab area for a fab exhibition. 11am the doors opened and we were there ready and waiting.
The exhibition shows the success of Missoni over the family’s fifty-year career. It managed to show Missoni’s connection between art and their idea of fashion. Which of course has been a huge success. Just look at the dress below. I LOVE this dress..

Art in motion is how life was viewed and therefor this was applied to Missoni’s work. A celebratory attitude towards the human body. This is how Missoni in the fashion industry was so successful, especially in the sixties.
As a family they had such skill and an eye for pattern and colour. Ottavio Missoni sketched designs for fabric onto graph paper using felt tip pens. A fantastic and effective way of design. At the exhibition they compared these sketches to the knitting produced along with the threads at the stage of choosing colours. You can see the design stages, different mediums and a refreshing electrifying use of colour. A premium palatte indeed.

There is a film at the exhibition where the Missoni family each contribute about their career and the brand Missoni. Something so intoxifying that you can’t take your eyes away from is the loom. They ‘tweek’ the loom whilst it’s running to ensure accuracy. Whilst the colours go through, it’s just addictive to watch.

The exhibition shows Missoni’s whole career all the way through to June 2009 when the first Missoni hotel opened in Edinburgh. I should think this is pretty pricey, but after seeing and appreciating Missoni’s style and design… I’m thinking it would be an amazing experience. Maybe one to go on the ‘wish list’.
The exhibition is running until the 20th September 2009. If you are from London or are visiting in this time I truly recommend.
